Sloan Man Killed on River Project

Cyrill DeMere, 41, a resident of near Sloan for the past several years drowned in the Missouri River Tuesday when he lost his balance and fell into the river from a pile driver, according to the report that reached here Tuesday evening.

He was employed on the Roberts Construction Company crew that is doing river improvement work between Onawa and Decatur.

Efforts to locate his body had proved fruitless at the last report.

DeMere was born in Belgium, July 4, 1895 and he and his brother, Phil, came to Geneva, Iowa, years ago.

Surviving are his parents in Belgium, and his brother at Geneva.

Last winter DeMere stayed at the home of Dick Harvey and worked for Lee Worrell. He went onto the river job this spring when the work opened up.—Sloan Star.
