Craig Charles Calhoun, 59, of Sioux City and Sioux Falls, S.D., was gently lifted into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at his brother's home in Southaven, Miss., after a brief battle with brain cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, in Sioux City, with the Rev. Mark Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Craig was born on Oct. 4, 1958, to Charles and Shirley Calhoun, the third of four children. He grew up in Sioux City and Rock Island, Ill. He graduated with honors from North High School in 1977, where he was that year's Sertoma Club award winner for outstanding service in the community. He later attended Morningside College.

He was employed as a marketing director for Gannett Publishing in Sioux Falls at the time of his death. He was previously employed as director of marketing at Cortrust Bank in Sioux Falls, marketing director at South Bay Bank in Torrance Calif., and creative director for Corporate Image Services in the Quad Cities. He also owned C3 Marketing Solutions and developed many marketing, advertising and television campaigns for local companies. He was a four time National Television Advertising Telly Awards winner, an American Bankers Association Marketing Award winner, and a three time Addy Award winner in the Quad Cities and California. He received a Creative Services Award in Southern California in 2002.

Craig was truly a joy to be around. He was personable, upbeat, creative, and possessed a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was very musical and had a beautiful voice. He enjoyed playing the role of the Tinman in North High's production of The Wizard of Oz, and sang for many local bridal events, weddings, and funerals. Most importantly, Craig was a born-again Christian and looked forward to being with Jesus and dear ones who had passed on before him.

He is survived by his father, Charles Calhoun of Sioux City; his brother, Mark Calhoun and wife, Melanie of Southaven; his sister, Susan Daniels of Bayard, Neb.; and four nephews; six nieces; 11 grandnieces; and seven grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Calhoun; his brother, Steve Calhoun; his paternal grandparents, Paul and Margaret Calhoun; his maternal grandparents, Earl and Olive Glann; a sister-in-law, Karen Calhoun; and a brother-in-law, Brad Daniels.

We give thanks to God for Craig's life and the enormous amount of joy and laughter he brought to our lives. He leaves behind a void that cannot be filled—he truly was one of a kind. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
