Monica L. Strong, 64, of Lawton, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Monica Lynn (Weber) Strong was born on Aug. 18, 1953, in Sioux City, the daughter of Glen and Mary (Dixon) Weber. She grew up in Anthon, Iowa, and was a graduate of Anthon-Oto High School. Monica continued her education and received her nursing degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College.

She married Paul Strong on Jan. 12, 1973. They made their home in Sioux City before moving to the farm near Lawton in 1979. Monica devoted more than 30 years to her nursing career and was employed at both hospitals in Sioux City and later at Countryside Retirement Community.

An accomplished seamstress and quilter she created many lovely items that are treasured by family and friends. Monica also enjoyed antiquing, crafting and creating habitat for birds.

She is survived by her husband, Paul of Lawton; her two children, Tammie L. Strong of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tony Strong of Sioux City; a grandchild, Gregory of South Dakota; two sisters, Linda Podewils of Altoona, Iowa, and Barbara (Larry) Lykins of Waukee, Iowa; one brother, Bradley (Lina) Weber of Taylor, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Stephen, Robert and Richard.
