Mrs. C. Kullman Is Dead, County Charge
Once Well to Do Woman Was Keeper of Best Boarding House in the City

Worn by old age, grief and sorrow, Mrs. C. Kullman, one of the pioneer women of Woodbury County, passed away yesterday evening at St. Joseph’s hospital. She was about 75 years old. Her death follows a long period of struggle with poverty, made more depressing because of the fact that at one time she was well to do. Though she is known to many in the city, she died without a relative in this county. She was born in Germany. Her husband, from whom she had been separated, died in Chicago about 15 years ago.

Mrs. Kullman’s better days in Sioux City were spent as proprietor of the old Madison House, 40 years ago considered to be the best boarding place in the city. It is now what is called the Columbia House.

Her declining years were one of constant struggle to keep the wolf from the door. She was a woman of much pride and made every effort to keep herself from being taken to the county home. Giving up the struggle about a year ago she was taken out there, where the best of care was given her, but slowly sank and when she was removed from the home to St. Joseph’s hospital the latter part of last week it was known that the end was near.

The funeral arrangements have been taken over by friends and the Catholic sisters. The funeral will be held from St. Jean Baptiste Church and interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
