Man Hit By Auto: Dies Of Injuries
Robert Meyer, 1306 Pierce Street, Is Victim
Harry Eells Drives Car
Accident, Occurring at Fourteenth and Pierce Streets, Was Not the Driver’s Fault, According to Persons Who Saw It.

Robert Meyer, 33 year old, of 1306 Pierce Street, yesterday afternoon was struck by a motor car driven by Harry Eells, a real state dealer, and died of his injuries before reaching a hospital.

The accident happened at 1:50 o’clock at the intersection of Fourteenth and Pierce Street. Eells was driving south in Pierce Street, and according to witnesses, was proceeding at a moderate rate of speed. He applied his brakes upon seeing Meyer, Meyer, who was walking west in Fourteenth street, stopped, Eells then started forward and Meyer also started, Eells again applied his brakes, and again Meyer stopped, whereupon Eells concluded that the way was clear and again released his brakes, but the victim also moved forward and was struck by the left fender of the machine. He was knocked to the pavement and the motor passed over his body.

Mr. Eells stepped from his machine and called an ambulance and a doctor. The police ambulance arrived a few minutes later and while the victim was being conveyed to St. Vincent’s Hospital he died.

Mr. Meyer’s body was removed to the Dickinson undertaking establishment, where it was found his skull had been fractured and his right leg injured.

Mr. Meyer was born in Sioux City, October 11, 1886. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. C.A. Meyer, three brothers, John, William and Henry Meyer and two sisters, Miss Lyda Meyer and Mrs. I. Starr, all of Sioux City.

The accident was a great shock to Mr. Eells, who said he had been driving cars in Sioux City for nine years and never before had had a mishap. Mrs. Eells and their two small children were in the machine at the time of the accident. Mr. Eells said he always used extraordinary precaution whenever he had his children in the car. Persons who saw the accident held Mr. Eells blameless.
