Smithland, Iowa—John C. Mack, 86, longtime Smithland resident died Friday, March 31, 1989 in the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday April 3, 1989 at the Smithland United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary De Geest will officiate. Burial will be in the Smithland Little Sioux Township Cemetery under the direction of the Willman Funeral Home of Rodney. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today. The family will be present from 7 to 9 this evening.

John Mack, son of Thomas and Mary Barry Mack, was born March 3, 1902 at Oto, Iowa. He married Mary Carson November 9, 1924 at Oto. They farmed near Oto until 1953 when he became owner and operator of a service station in Smithland. He operated the station until 1970. He had been a resident of Pleasant View for 3 ½ years.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, John and daughter-in-law Kathy of Hornick, Iowa, Thomas and daughter-in-law Doris of Sioux City, a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Dorothy) Benton of Marcus, Iowa, a brother, Cecil J. San Jose, California; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joan and a brother, Leo.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad Benton, Gene, Galen and Kirk Bollig, Jerry Grimsley and Richard Mack.
