Samuel Powl Kennett 1857 – 1939

Samuel Powl Kennett, 82, resident of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, the last 50 years, died in his home Saturday night after a month’s illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Sergeant Bluff Community Church. Rev. Fred Grantham will officiate. Burial will be directed in Graceland Cemetery here by the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside. The coffin will be opened before the altar of the church an hour before services.

Honorary pallbearers will include Bruce Semple, A.H. Miller, T.R. Mather, Andrew Christiansen, W.K. Holder and Neal Coffey.

Active pallbearers will include Ernest Kennett, Llewellyn Kennett, Stanley Kennett, Glen Campbell and Alton Thompson.

Mr. Kennett located at Sergeant Bluff in 1883 and had resided there continuously since 1888. He was a member of the Christian Church. I.O.O.F., Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodmen of America lodges.

Born at Gladstone, Illinois, February 7, 1857, he married Anna Morgan there July 1, 1880.

Survivors include his widow, five sons, Allen of Sergeant Bluff, Charles of Sioux City, Harold of Pasadena, California, Eugene of Bronson, Iowa and Fred of Oregon City, Oregon, three daughters, Mrs. Chesba Campbell of Hominy, Oklahoma, Mrs. Elma Jorgensen of Oregon City and Mrs. Blanche Waterman and Mrs. Marie Christiansen, both of Sergeant Bluff, two sisters, Mrs. L.E. McClinton of Quowka, Illinois and Mrs. Mary Havner of Illinois and 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
