Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Taylor resident of Salix and Sioux City communities since 1865, who would have been 98 years old May 2, died Tuesday in the Phillips Nursing Home in Morningside of infirmities due to advanced age. The body is in the Christy’s Funeral Home in Morningside.

Mrs. Taylor was born May 2, 1841, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she resided her first 24 years of life and where she was married to Samuel Taylor. In 1865 they moved to Wisconsin and traveled by stage coach to a homestead near Salix the same year. Only three other families resided in the Salix neighborhood at that time.

When Mr. Taylor died in 1914 she moved to Sioux City where she had since resided. Mrs. Taylor was the mother of Dr. James F. Taylor, who died here in 1934. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. James F. Taylor; two grandchildren, Mrs. Rowland F. Philbrook of Davenport and Mrs. Doris T. Tuttle of Sioux City; a nephew, William Fitzmaurice of Hakifax, and three great grandchildren.
