Death Claims Pastor’s Wife

Mrs. Henry Clark Succumbs Tuesday In Sioux City Home

Mrs. Elizabeth Gertrude Smith Clark, 70, wife of Rev. Henry Clark, pastor of the First Unitarian Church here, died Tuesday in their home.

Mrs. Clark became ill January 18, immediately after her appearance at the Isaak Walton league banquet. On the same day she entertained Dr. Preston Bradley in her home.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Westcott-Doughty-Chandler Funeral Home. Rabbi T.N. Lewis will officiate. The body will be sent to Chicago for cremation and the ashes will be buried in the grave of her daughter in Rosehill Cemetery. Dr. Bradley will officiate at services Friday morning in Chicago.

Mrs. Clark born July 2, 1868, at Shelbyville, Illinois, had been a resident of Sioux City when Rev. Clark became identified with the First Unitarian Church. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, died while she was a child, after moving to south-western Kansas where she attended school.

Mrs. Clark worked her way through the State Normal School at Fort Scott and qualified as a teacher. After teaching five years she was married to Rev. Clark in 1892. They lived at various times in Kansas, Illinois, Colorado, Minnesota and Iowa.

Survivors include her widower, Rev. Clark; two children, Mrs. Ruth Rodman of Chicago and Paul M. Clark of Cleveland, Ohio and four grandchildren, one child Esther Jane Clark, died in 1929.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Gertrude Clark, 70, wife of Rev. Henry Clark of First Unitarian Church, were conducted Wednesday afternoon in the Wescott-Doughty-Chandler Chapel. Rabbi T.N. Lewis officiated. The body will be sent to Chicago for cremation and the ashes will be buried in the grave of her daughter. Mrs. Clark died Tuesday in her home 1106 Douglas.
