Bud D. Johnson, 72, of Sioux City died Monday, June 1, 1998, at a Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson was born June 3, 1925, in Laurel, Nebraska, the son of McKinley and Myrtle (Spike) Johnson. He was raised in Laurel, graduating from Laurel High School. He attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. His awards include the Purple Heart Medal.

He married Betty J. Harris on April 27, 1946 in Elk Point, South Dakota. He was employed with Wincharger Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1965.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 54 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold and Michael, both of Sioux City; a daughter, Janice Watkins of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Scott, Brad, Maria and Kimberly Johnson, Cindy Brennan, Bryan and Dana Watkins and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Harold, Michael, Scott and Brad Johnson, Bryan Watkins and Steve Brennan.
