Ronald E. Dreyer, 79, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly Cherokee, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Cris Decious officiating. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee. Military rites will be conducted the cemetery by L.A. Wescott Post 2253 of the V.F.W. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday, with the family present at that time, at the funeral home. Ronald was born Jan. 7, 1939, in Cherokee, Iowa, to R. Frank and Helen (Crippen) Dreyer. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1956 and then attended NBT Business School in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1961 until 1965.

He was married to Sue Smith on Sept. 17, 1966, in Sioux City. Ronald had worked for Metz Baking Co. in Sioux City for 37 years, retiring in June of 1997.

He was a member of the American Legion in Sergeant Bluff. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm, bowling, gardening, and his Boxer dogs.

He is survived by his two children, Keith Dreyer and Lisa Peterson of Jackson, Neb.; granddaughter, Marissa Peterson; sister, Connie Benson of Cherokee; brother-in-law, Hank Phipps of Primghar, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Phipps and Peggy Dreyer; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Benson.
