Norma V. "Stormin Norma" Michaelson, 93, of Sioux City, entered the gates of Heaven surrounded by "her two girls" on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Pioneer Valley Living and Rehabilitation.

A Celebration of Life service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Shirbroun officiating. Per her wishes, the body will be cremated. Burial will be Tuesday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Norma was born on Oct. 29, 1924, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Genevieve Uhl. She was raised on their farm in Mapleton and graduated from business school in Sioux City.

She married the love of her life, Robert Michaelson, on April 11, 1946, in Sioux City, and they were married 66 years. They made their home in Sioux City with their two daughters. Norma worked at the Sioux City Journal for many years, and also managed the office of the Chris Harrington Dance Studio and Linda Lee’s Hallmark.

Norma was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra and Mike Shanahan of Omaha, and Jody Boyd of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Jason and Regina Shanahan of Omaha, Lori and Vince Swallow of Omaha, Julie and John Mahler of New York, and Jenny and Rick Boyle of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Serena, Alex, Alison, Ray and Dannon; one great-great-grandchild, Jett; and a sister, Nancy Myers of Grand Junction.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.

A special thank you to the Pioneer Valley staff for creating a loving home for Norma as she truly loved you all and considered PV as her “home” for the last two years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to family to memorialize Mike and Norma through a future project.
