Scott Paul "Scooter" Stahlnecker, 40, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in Sioux City.

Services will be noon Saturday, March 24, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Scooter was born on April 2, 1977, in Walnut Creek, Calif., to Paul Stahlnecker and Tanya Rochelle (Freeny) Wade. He grew up in California and moved to Sioux City with his friend, Bud, at the age of 27. In 2006, Scooter met the love of his life, Melissa Elgert, and they were married on June 23, 2012.

Scooter worked as a forklift operator at Cloverleaf and also at DNS Landscaping. The most important job he had was being a family man. He took great pride in taking care of his family. For many years, he was a stay-at-home dad while Melissa worked. He not only took great care of his wife and kids, but was also a caregiver for his ill father-in-law.

Scooter was an amazing cook and loved serving others. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, doing anything, as long as he was with his friends and family. Staying faithful to his California roots, he was an avid San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan, as well as the Golden State Warriors.

Scooter was a fearless, free spirit, who will be remembered fondly by all that knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Stahlnecker; children, Mikaela and Ryder Elgert-Stahlnecker and Mariah Stahlnecker, all of the home; father, Paul Stahlnecker; mother, Rochelle Wade; sister, Heather Futymoski; brother, Josh Baimbridge, all of California; mother-in-law, Joanne (Henry) Hildebrand; father-in-law, Bruce Elgert Sr., all of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law; and extended family and friends.

Scooter was preceded in death by his grandparents; and brother-in-law, Michael Berens.
