24 January 2018

Steven Brian Parks, 63, of Sioux City, entered his final resting place in Heaven on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.

He was surrounded by those he loved and shared his life with and was very proud to have so many “mourners” as he called us at his side. His sense of humor continued right up to the final hours of his life here on Earth and he eased the burden of his family and friends with his lighthearted wit and humor to help his family get through this difficult time.

A memorial service to honor this wonderful man will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25 at Sunnybrook Community Church with the Rev. Jan King officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date with immediate family present. Visitation with family will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sioux City (4125 Orleans Ave.) from 4-8 p.m. and prayer service following at 7 p.m. Steve has entrusted Waterbury Funeral Services with his final arrangements. Your condolences can go directly to Steve by prayer as he will always be listening.

The world became a better place on April 27, 1954, when Steven Brian Parks was born in Sioux City to Eugene and Phyllis Parks. He was one of seven children and was awarded the title of number three by his parents when there was difficulty remembering names when trouble was brewing. Steve attended St. Boniface Elementary School and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1973.

Steve married Nancy Wilbur on Dec. 2, 1973, and to this union they were blessed with two beautiful children, Eric and Amy Parks. After his divorce, his best friend Mark Curry introduced him to his sister, Barb and Steve decided he couldn’t live a day without her and they married on Sept. 16, 1983. Steve and Barb welcomed three beautiful children into their family. They were blessed with baby girl, Alicia and twins, Erin and Tony Parks. Steve spent many hours filming the lives of his children. They were his biggest joy in life.

Steve took pride in his work ethic and dedicated 38 years to Gelita USA INC. He found it difficult to be forced to retire due to illness, but found happiness in the days to follow when he was joined in his retirement by Barb and declared that now every day was Saturday. Steve loved camping, boating, sitting by a good campfire with a southern comfort “cough syrup” surrounded by family and friends. He loved to fish and hunt. Many deer and turkey ran for their lives during Steve’s hunting excursions. Some survived and some didn’t. Family was at the top of the list for Steve, and not only did he cherish his own parents and siblings, but he also had great love for Barb’s family as well.

Those of us that were honored to share his life and carry on his memory are his wife, Barb Parks of Sioux City; son, Eric (Shannon) Parks of Glenwood, Iowa; daughter, Amy McGuire of Omaha; son, Tony Parks of Sioux City; daughter, Erin Parks (Julie Castellanos) of Sioux City; grandchildren, Bailey Biddle and Isaiah Schonrock of Sioux City, Gavin and Olivia Parks of Glenwood; siblings, Robert Parks of Sioux City, Sheryl (Randy) Stusse of Sioux City, Lisa Millage of Hawarden, Iowa, Susan (Rick) Rague of Waconia, Minn. and Tracie (Alan) Farmer of Orchard, Iowa; mother-in-law, Patty (Rosie) Curry of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Penny (Arnie) Jasman of Sioux City; Mark (Kerrie) Curry Of Sioux City and many nieces and nephews that will cherish his memory for the years to come.

Steve was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Alicia; parents, Eugene and Phyllis Parks; brother, David Parks and father-in-law, Robert Curry.

The family would like to give thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors of UnityPoint in Sioux City for their care of Steve over the last 15 months and to Hospice of Siouxland for making his final journey a peaceful one.
