John E. Skoglund, 72, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by the North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662, all at the Berkemier Funeral Home.

Mr. Skoglund was born March 20, 1926 in Sioux City, the son of Otto and Pearl (Smith) Skoglund. He attended Sioux City schools and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He married Juanita Montgomery on August 9, 1946, in Elk Point S.D. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He was employed as a pressman with Warner Printing and later with the Sioux City Journal. They then operated Skoglund’s Cleaning Service. He retired in 1991.

He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662 A.F. & A.M., the Sioux City Consistory and the Abu Bekr Shrine. He enjoyed wood-working and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Pam and her husband Larry Blackshear and Dawn and her husband Jeff Johnson, all of Louisville, Texas, Michelle and her husband Leon Howard and Deb and her husband Tom Wamberg, all of North Sioux City, Renee Smith and Robin and her husband Clifford Tague Jr. all of Sioux City; two sisters, Maybell Leckband and Dorothy March, both of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren, Brian Blackshear, Carlton and Shane Howard, Jill Issac, Jason and Trisha Johnson, Shelley Larson, John Skoglund, Amy Smalling, Danielle, Kristine and Ashley Smith, Nichole and Tara Tague, Jason Wamberg and Tammy Wellborn and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beatrice Mulheron.

Pallbearers will be John Skoglund, Carlton Howard, Phil Isaac, Jason Johnson, Cliff Tague and Weldon Wellborn.
