DANBURY, Iowa -- Raymond Scott, 80, of Danbury died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Carlson-Frum Post 336 of Danbury. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Visitation will resume noon until service time Thursday at the church.

Raymond Albert Scott was born May 16, 1924, in Garfield Township, Ida County, Iowa, the son of John L. and Etta (Otto) Scott. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Garfield Township. He graduated from Danbury High School with the class of 1940.

On Sept. 25, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lois L. Abbe in Ida Grove, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army in the spring of 1946 and served his country in the Philippines from May 1946 to the spring of 1947. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to his life's work in farming from 1947 to 1986. The couple moved into Danbury in 1987. He then worked at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa with the maintenance department for a period of August 1988 to April 1995. In recent years, he worked at Treiber's Tap and Russ's Furniture.

He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton since 1957, where he served on the church council. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Danbury, served as a councilman for the city of Danbury and was a John Deere two-cylinder tractor enthusiast. However, the greatest pleasure he had was found in his grandchildren. He enjoyed following their sport events and especially loved their visits.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Ray include his wife of 59 years, Lois; three daughters, Rhonda and her husband, Don Jensen of Gahanna, Ohio, Marla Scott of Waverly, Iowa, and Pam and her husband, Myron Kunze of Mapleton, Iowa; a son and his wife, Robert and Sue of Morrison, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Kristen, Kimberly and Jeff Jensen, Brooke and Brittany Rogge, Abbey Tjebkes, Megan and Molly Tullis and Ryan and Jessica Scott; two stepgrandchildren, Wade and Cassie Kunze; along with other relatives, good friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Helen Beam, Ethel Huitt and Minnie Surber.

Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa, or Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
