Catherine A. MacNicol, 92, of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following complications from surgery.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William L. Love officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Catherine Anne McManigal was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Rosalie, Neb., the daughter of Randall D. and Edith M. (Grant) McManigal. She moved to Sioux City as a child, where she attended Smith Elementary, West Middle and Central High School, graduating mid-year 1930.

She married Andrew Henderson Jr. of Cushing, Iowa, on Nov. 30, 1932. Andrew preceded her in death in May 1937. After his death, she worked as an office manager for Mutual Benefit Health until 1940.

This is where she met William John "Bill" MacNicol, whom she married on Aug. 22, 1940, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She followed Bill to Coeur D'Alene, Idaho during his tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, where she worked as a disbursement clerk. Later, the couple moved to Seattle, Wash., where she was head of the finance department for the U.S. Navy. Following Bill's discharge, the couple returned to Sioux City.

Her next and most rewarding job was being the mother to her two girls, Anne and Randi. When they both left home, she became employed at the old North Branch Library. Bill preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1986.

She was actively involved with Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Siouxland Youth Symphony board and Sioux Trails Girl Scouts. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for 64 years, where she taught Sunday School and served on the deaconess board. In later years, she became very active with Siouxland Senior Center, where she loved to play cards and most of all, dance. She was truly a lady and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Anne Cowley of Sioux City and Randi and her husband, Jon Adams, of Adair, Okla.; two grandchildren, Jason Cowley of Sioux City and Katie and her husband, James Lantz, of Adair, Okla.; a special friend, Cecil Stratton of Sioux City; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret E. McManigal; and a brother, Randall D. McManigal.

Pallbearers will be Doug Hodgins, Richard Crawford, Craig Jensen, Wayne Boyd, Robert Watson, Bill Clark, Stan Wisnieski and Mike Simoni.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or Siouxland Senior Center.
