James E. "Jim" Bobier, 82, of Sioux City, passed away suddenly Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jim was born on Nov. 16, 1934, the son of Ed and Susie (Buchanan) Bobier, on the family homestead near Homer, Neb. He graduated from South Sioux City High School, then worked alongside with his father in the concrete business. After working several years at a packing plant, he attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and became a machinist. Jim worked for La Blanc Tower Co. until his retirement in 1994.

On Aug. 18, 1956, he married Barbara Jean Lewis at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Together they raised two children and provided a home for two foster children through Lutheran Social Services.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and target shooting. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling. He loved family history and living life with a good sense of humor. Jim was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara; son, James E. (Diane) Bobier Jr. of Hutchinson, Minn.; daughter, Bounsong (Steve) Sterner of Hutchinson; sister, Mary Sue Eggers of Staceyville, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Hilary, Heidi, Luke, Laura, Amanda, Stephanie, Anthony, Jeremy and Jodi; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Knudsen.
