Anne Phipps, 63, of Sioux City, formerly of Cherokee, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City.

Visitation with the family will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home in Cherokee. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Anne was born in Cherokee, on June 5, 1954, the oldest of Nate and Virginia Phipps' six children. She attended Special Education classes at Cherokee Public Schools from kindergarten through her senior year. Her education continued in Glenwood, Iowa, where she was enrolled in vocation and trades classes. After completing these courses, she obtained employment in Sioux City.

Anne lived and worked in Sioux City since that time. She lived in Schesler Hall and worked for Goodwill Industries. She later lived in Morningside with Mid-Step housing and worked in the Mid-Step program five days a week. She participated in their Christmas choir and equestrian program. When her health became an issue, Anne moved to Westwood Specialty Care where above all odds she shined for more than six years. Anne exhibited her world class Coca-Cola consumption abilities during her time at Westwood.

Anne loved music and dancing. When she was visiting in Cherokee, she liked to go to coffee with the girls with her mom and her mom's friends. She had a nice disposition and people who knew her gained a lot from having known her. She loved going on trips with her mom, most notably a trip to Las Vegas where she got to see her all-time favorite, Wayne Newton.

Anne is survived by her mother, Virginia Phipps of Cherokee; five siblings, Dude (Miriam) of Sioux City, Pat (Theresa) of Moville, Iowa, Jean (Buzz) Paterson of Storm Lake Iowa, Chuck (Jeanne) of Charlotte, N.C., and Ginny (Kenny) Phipps-Bright of Cherokee; her aunts, Meg Wilkinson and Julie Wise; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Anne was preceded in death by her father, Nate Phipps; her grandparents, Dr. James H and Inez Wise, and Nelson and Susan Phipps; her uncle, Dr. James K Wise; and a nephew, Noah Phipps.

Anne's family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful folks at Westwood as well as the caring people with Care Initiatives Hospice. Their kindness to Anne is greatly appreciated.
