Leonard E. Brown, 99, of Sioux City, Iowa died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa with Pastor Jim Shirbroun, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Morningside Post #697. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. followed by a Masonic service led by Morningside Masonic Lodge #615. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Leonard Eugene was born August 15, 1918 in Whiting, Iowa the son of Oliver Earl and Catherine Matilda (Ernst) Brown. He attended East High School in Sioux City.

Leonard and Shirley M. Creighton were united in marriage on December 28, 1941 at South Sioux City, Nebraska. They made their home in Morningside in Sioux City where they raised their three sons and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Shirley passed away March 11, 2009.

Leonard entered the United States Army in 1941 and served during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1948 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

He worked at the Skelly Gas Station with his father-in-law, Dell Creighton until Dell's death. Leonard continued operating the station which later became a Conoco Station. Leonard then worked for Sieg Automotive Wholesalers in Sioux City.

Leonard was a very talented woodworker and crafted many exquisite pieces over the years from his home woodworking shop.

Leonard was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. He was also a member of American Legion Morningside Post #697 and the Morningside Masonic Lodge# 615.

Survivors include his three sons, Tom Brown of Sioux City, IA, Ron (Cheryl) Brown of Omaha, NE, and Martin Brown of Sioux City, IA; nine grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou Cloud of San Diego, CA; brother-in-law, Earl Bunton of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Eberly of Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, Oliver Earl and Catherine Matilda (Ernst) Creighton; his parents-in-law, Dell and Lily Creighton; brother, Clarence (Evelyn) Brown; sister, Eileen Bunton; brother, Oliver Earl Jr. "Jackie" (Virginia) Brown; and two brothers-in-law, Dennis Cloud and Virgil Eberly.
