Services for Leonard S. Francis, 79, 520 S. Alice Street, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.

The Rev. Arthur K. Beumler of Morningside Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be W.D. Martens, Henry Martens Jr., A.M. “Swede” Larsen, Clayton Coock, Jim Sward and Gayle Christensen.

Mr. Francis died Friday at a Sioux City nursing home after a brief illness.

Leonard S. Francis, 79, 520 S. Alice Street, a Woodbury County sheriff’s deputy for more than 15 years, died Friday night at a Sioux City nursing home after a brief illness.

Mr. Francis was born November 8, 1898 in Holly Springs, Iowa. He lived in Woodbury County his entire life. He married Ethel Vivian Glann March 11, 1922 in Omaha.

Mr. Francis owned and operated a service station in Climbing Hill, Iowa for 19 years. He moved to Sioux City in1951.

Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Erwin (Donna) Waddell of Bronson, Iowa and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Devine of Jefferson, Iowa, two brothers, J. Calvin of Santa Rosa, California and Lawrence of Sioux City, two sisters, Mrs. Olive Jackson of Oto, Iowa and Mrs. Ruth Bower of Carmichael, California; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services are pending at the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.
