Eva Humel Christman 1880 - 1972

Mrs. William Christman, 92, a longtime Smithland resident, died Tuesday in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 10;30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Smithland. The Rev. H.A. Smidt will officiate. Burial will be in Smithland Cemetery under direction of the Willman Funeral Home at Rodney.

The former Eva Humel, Mrs. Christman was born May 27, 1880 at Oakland, Iowa. She moved to a farm northwest of Smithland with her parents and attended Smithland High School and Morningside College. She taught school in Woodbury County several years. She was married to Mr. Christman in 1907. They lived on a farm northwest of Smithland until moving to Smithland in 1934. He died in Smithland in 1941. She had lived at the Billy Sunday Retirement Home in recent years.

Mrs. Christman was a member of the Methodist Church, the women’s Society for Christian Service and the Cemetery Society at Smithland.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Goldie Leetch of La Habra, California, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
