Michael E. “Mick” O’Connor, 77, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017. at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Revs. Daniel Rupp and Tom Topf concelebrating. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mick was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Sioux City, the son of Frederick Elmer and Ethel Marie (Humes) O’Connor. He graduated from Heelan High School.

Mick married Jean Jonas on Aug. 24, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mick worked as a union carpenter, retiring from Klinger Corporation after 30 years.

He enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer, enjoying his time with “The Group” at Green Valley Golf Course. Mick was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served as an usher. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his wife Jean; five sons, Tim O’Connor of Sioux City, Craig and wife, Maria O’Connor of Midland, Texas, Dennis O’Connor of Sioux City, Kevin and wife, Linda O’Connor of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Patrick and wife, Susan O’Connor of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Zieman of Cherokee, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Tom; and a nephew, Jimmy.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be set up in his memory at Green Valley Golf Course.
