Moore, Okla, formerly of Hinton, Iowa

Ernest J. Foster, 82, of Moore, Okla., formerly of Hinton, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Okla., after a month-long illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. The Rev. Tim Squier will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mr. Foster was born June 6, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Ernest F. Foster and Bonnie (Brown) Johnson. At the age of 16 1/2, he entered into the U.S. Navy and obtained the rank of an Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AE3) and was in the Navy for four years (1951-1955).

He married Phyllis B. (Tobias) Foster on March 27, 1960, in Sioux City. After leaving the U.S. Navy, he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration. In 1968, he started his U.S. Postal career in Sioux City and retired in 1992.

Survivors include his three children, Lori Daniele (Robert) of Earleton, Fla., Jim Foster (Rady) of Moore, Okla., and Janelle, formerly of Hinton; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Foster of Des Moines, Iowa, Connor and Riley Foster of Sioux City, and Lily and Mia Foster of Moore, Okla.; his aunt, Shirley Fairbanks of Sioux City; and three brothers-in-law, Duane Tobias and Phil Tobias (Kathy) of Sioux City, Lance Tobias (Elaine) of Glendale, Ariz.; and four sisters-in-law, Pat Biggerstaff (Bill) and Gail Viers (Kenneth) of Sioux City, Joy Corder (Mike) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Vicky Wilhelm (Bill) of Placitas, N.M.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis; his father, Ernest; his mother, Bonnie Johnson; and his only brother, Ed Foster.

The family would like to thank the doctors (Dr. Rogers, Dr. Cochran, Dr. Hayes, Dr. Toal and Dr. Bacchus) and the nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy staff at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman Regional Healthplex and Medical Park West Rehab facility for their excellent and compassionate care of our father and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
