Keith William "Chief" Brown, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at a local hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Santee Community Center in Santee, Neb. Burial will be in Santee Episcopal Cemetery, with military rites provided by the Niobrara, Neb., Legion. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

Keith William "Chief" Brown was born on Aug. 23, 1947, in Winnebago, Neb., the son of James and Mary (Trudell) Brown. He grew up in Sioux City.

On Nov. 23, 1967, he married Claire Free. She later passed in 2007. Chief entered the U.S. Army in 1968. In 1970, he received his honorable discharge. He then went on to work for IBP for more than 30 years, retiring in 2005.

He was a pitcher for the Sioux City Fast Pitch League in earlier days.

Chief is survived by one son, Aspen (Melonie); one daughter, Denise Ibarra; eight grandchildren, David, Victor, Isaiah, Jase, Katelin, Kristen, Autumn, and Addison; and one great-grandchild, Lucy, all of Sioux City; one brother, James M. Brown (Pam) of Bemidji, Minn.; and one sister, Rita A. White of Santee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Claire; three brothers, Wilbur Brown, Jeff Brown, and Harold LaPointe; and one son-in-law, David Ibarra.
