John J. Emge, 79, of Kingsley, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley. The Revs. Brad Pelzel and Thomas Topf will celebrate Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., a rosary at 6 p.m. and a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be directed through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com .

John J. Emge was born on Nov. 6, 1937, in Salix, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Vivian (Terrell) Emge. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in Salix in 1957.

On Sept. 2, 1957, John and Betty Ullrich were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix. The couple made their home in Loveland, Colo. John worked for 30 years as a national and international tire analyst and salesman for TOYO and General Tire. John and Betty returned to the area in 2004 and settled in Kingsley.

John was currently a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley. He enjoyed raising world champion paint horses while in Colorado. He was an Elks member for more than 50 years. John loved his family and spending time at the farm in Oto, Iowa, and doing yard work at his home.

He will be lovingly remembered by a daughter, Twila Gavin and her husband, John of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Marty Emge and his wife, Robbie of Loveland; grandchildren, Therese Hall and husband, Jeff of San Antonio, Korrie Denning and her husband, Andy of Parker, Colo., and Kyle Emge of Parker; two great-granddaughters, Max and Remi Denning; sister, Shana Emge of Whiting, Iowa; sister-in-law, Julie Emge of South Sioux City; caregiver and friend, Sister Janet Kreber; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Richard; and infant brother, Bobby.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix.
