Lee Corley "Smitty" Smith, 48, of Peoria, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on July 30, 2017.

A celebration of life service will be 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Weaver Ridge Golf Club, 5100 North Weaverridge Boulevard, in Peoria.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1969, in Sioux City, to Donald J. Smith and Mary C. Smith. Smitty was a retired member of the PGA and had a distinguished career as a Class A PGA professional in the Midwest. He completed his career as the head professional at the Pekin Country Club in Pekin, Ill.

Smitty was known for his great sense of humor and incredible memory of events in his life.

He is survived by his mother, Mary C. Smith of Overland Park, Kan.; his brothers, Tod J. Smith of Overland Park, and Jay S. Smith of Wellesley, Mass.; his life-long friend, Jackie Hattan of Peoria; and his son, Brandon Gries of Madison Heights, Mich.

Any gifts or donations should be made to the PGA scholarship program in Smitty's name.
