Joseph Victor Huff, 62, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at a local hospital.

A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Darrin Vick officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brother Morningside Chapel. Joseph Victor Huff was born in Vallejo, Calif., on Nov. 25, 1954, to Joseph and Mary Huff. Joe graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1972. He then went to the University of Sioux Falls, where he graduated in 1976.

On June 13, 1987, he married the love of his life, Carol Tiede in Parkston, S.D. Joe entered the gates of heaven on Aug. 19, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Joe had a multi-faceted career in transportation working for several companies in Texas and then in Sioux City from 1983 to 2003. He then worked in customer service for Suter Services from 2003 to 2011. He then moved to residential install coordinator with Suter from 2011 to 2012. Joe's final job was his favorite – driving a bus for Siouxland Regional Transit System, where he loved the opportunity to serve all who had needs from the very young to old. For Joe this was a ministry. His motto was, "If his clients were not smiling when they got on his bus, they would be smiling when they got off." Joe "raised heaven" wherever he went.

Joe was a long time member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where he was a prayer warrior, part of the audio/visual team, leader of worship and creative arts and Care Core Ministry. Joe was so grateful for his pastors, Darrin, Tom and Paul and his Morningside Lutheran Church family for their constant prayers, love and support. Joe would also want to thank all of his special neighbors, friends, co-workers and family for their love and care. And Joe would want to give a special thanks Dr. Wender and all the staff at June E. Nylen Cancer Center and Mercy Hospital who served him.

Joe loved to hunt, fish, golf with his friends from church and attend car races with his buddies. He also had a love for classic cars, where he was able to fulfill his dream of owning a 1964 Chevelle SS. But what Joe loved most was just spending time with his beloved Carol. In February 2017, Joe celebrated 19 years of sobriety.

In his final nine weeks at Mercy hospital, Joe ministered to everyone he came in contact with. Joe never met a stranger and never forgot a name. Joe had great joy in serving others. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Death did not have the final word. Jesus did when he said, "I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me though he shall die, yet shall he live."

Joe is survived by his wife, Carol; his father, Joseph Huff of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his sisters, Marilee Kontz of Sioux Falls, Vicki Hayes of Sioux Falls, and Michele (Ken) Rausch, Fargo, N.D.; His brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sherry Tiede of Plano, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved, Malshi Gracie.

Joe was preceded to heaven by his mother, Mary Huff; and his brother-in-law. Patrick Hayes.

The family has requested that memorials be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center and/or Hospice of Siouxland.
