Darrell Ore Olson, 80, of Sioux City, passed away on Aug. 17, 2017, at his home following a brief illness.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with family present noon to 3 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., in Sioux City. Private burial immediately following. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Darrell was born on July 18, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Ore Invald and Rose (Martson) Olson. He was raised in Sioux City. He attended Central High School leaving in 1955 then returning to finish his degree in 1961. Darrell also took a 10 week electricians certification that he used while serving in the military. Darrell joined the U.S. Marine Corps on Jan. 23, 1957, and was honorably discharged as a corporal E-4 on Jan. 20, 1961. He was stationed at Fort Pendelton, Calif., and spent one year and 11 months in foreign service.

Darrell was married to Carol (Weinreich) Linton 1962-1967, Rene (Black) Hawes 1972-1981, and Annette (Crenshaw) Olson 1982-2004.

Darrell worked at Swift and Company, Metz Baking, and Siouxland Regional Transit System, retiring for the final time from SRTS only a week before his 80th birthday.

Darrell enjoyed belonging to the Golden Gloves in his youth, bowling, watching the Hawkeyes, and the Morningside Mustangs play, and going to the Elk's Club, where he was an active member.

Due to military service, marriages, and work, Darrell lived in various places during his lifetime including Camp Pendleton, Calif., San Diego, Calif., Kadena AB Japan, Honolulu, Hawaii, Minneapolis, Stockton, Calif., and Huntsville, Ala. Living in all of those places, he always said Sioux City was his home.

Survivors include two sisters, Barbara (Daryl) Eide of San Diego, and Sandra (Tom) Keane of Sioux City; six sons, Dale Olson (special friend, Rhonda) of Pierson, Iowa, Darwin (Judy) Olson of Le Mars, Iowa, Devin (Katie) Olson of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Robert Olson of Sacramento, Calif., Marcus (Mary) Campbell of Brookings, S.D., and Darren Olson of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Michelle (Bob) Olson-Watts of Salado, Texas, Debra (Scott) Condrey of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Dena Olson of Kansas City, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Olson and Ronnie Olson.
