Alvin J. Willis, 80, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. The Rev. Michael Ring of Glad Tidings Lighthouse will officiate. Visitation will be noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Following the service, everyone is invited to a luncheon at Glad Tidings Lighthouse, 410 E. 10th St., South Sioux City.

Alvin was born on June 19, 1937, in Mexico, Mo., the son of Ernest and Maggie (Lue) Willis.

He married Debra Adams on Nov. 3, 1972, in Elk Point, S.D. Alvin and Debra had a son, Damon, who was the light of his life.

Alvin worked construction and as a taxi driver for years. He loved people and was friends with everyone. He received many awards for speaking. He was a football and basketball coach for Woodrow Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Debra of Sioux City; his son, Damon Willis of Sugarland, Texas; two grandchildren, Damon "DJ" and Maci of Sugarland; two brothers, Ronnie Scott of Missouri, and Merle Scott of Oregon; a sister, Louise Scott of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
