News from Smithland

Effie M. Seaton, daughter of William and Lavina Clark, was born September 2, 1894 and died March 27, 1972 at a South Sioux City Nursing home after a long illness. She had reached the age of 78 years, 6 months and 25 days.
She married Alva Seaton September 24, 1912 at Onawa and they lived at Smithland until 1941 when they moved to Sioux City. Mr. Seaton died in 1963. Mrs. Seaton was a member of the Methodist faith, a gold star mother and a member of the Leslie F. Seaton, Post 666 Auxiliary at Smithland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sons, Henry and Leslie.

She is survived by four sons, Orthel of Chateau, Montana, Chris of Lakewood, California, Willis of Dearborn Heights, Michigan and Paul of Herrick, Illinois; five daughters, Mrs. Audrey Snow of Pueblo, Colo, , Mrs. Ada Larson of Billings, Montana, Mrs. Birdelin Peterson, Mrs. Inez Smith and Mrs. Pauline Smith, all of South Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Cameron and Mrs. Alma Norby, both of Sioux City; four brothers, Dewey Clark of Rodney, Leslie of Daly City, California, Ervin of Eureka, California and Robert of Sioux City; 43 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Smithland Methodist Church with Rev. H. A. Smidt officiating. Mrs. Ronald Ernst sang "Going Down the Valley" and "Good Night and Good Morning" accompanied by Mrs. S. M. Hackett, Organist. Burial was in the Smithland cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Watson, Bernard Cory, Jess Hagerdon, Douglas Harding, Leonard Peterson and Merlin McLarty.
