John W. Dailey, 80, of Dakota City, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, 1431 West 29th Street. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

John was born on Feb. 5, 1937, in Richmond, Ky., the son of Carl and Mary Alice (Prewitt) Dailey. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955, serving in France, Goose Bay Labrador, and throughout the United States.

John married Norma Phelps on July 26, 1956 in Danville, Ky. They made their home in Sioux City. John was honorably discharged in 1967. Over the years, John worked for IBP, retiring in 1999 after 32 years of service.

John was past president of UFCW Local 222 Sioux City. He was a member of Dakota City American Legion, and St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. John enjoyed raising hogs, fishing, camping and gardening. The greatest gift he gave his family was the love he had for his wife, Norma.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Dailey of Dakota City; three children, Mike (Jean) Dailey of Sioux City, Johnette (Douglas) Moninger of Dakota City, and Tia (Doug) Baumann of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Lamachy of Florida; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Taylin Dailey; one brother; and four sisters.
