June was born on June 1, 1928, in Sioux City, the daughter of Clyde and Bessie (Nelson) Holman. She received her bachelor's of education from Buena Vista College and her master's of education from the University of South Dakota. June taught in Sioux City at Floyd Elementary for 20 years and also at Whittier, Grant, Joy and Longfellow Elementary.

She married Robert L. "Bob" Mahon on Oct. 13, 1959 in Elk Point, S.D. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2015, in Sioux City.

June was a proud wife of a veteran Marine. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). June and Bob were members of St. Casimir Catholic Church. After St. Casimir closed, they joined St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson. Bob was of Irish descent so June and Bob were at home at St. Patrick's and loved being members of the church. They were devoted Catholics who rarely missed mass. They also enjoyed their many worldwide travels.

Survivors include her children, Robin "Rob" Mahon of Sioux City and Kathryn and husband, Darwin Schumann, of Valley Center, Kan.; grandchildren, Sean Robert Mahon of Sioux City, Reilly Susan Mahon of Sioux City, Joseph James Bowersox of Woodland, Okla., Shelley Marie Otto of Omaha, and Angela Suzanne Frey of Milwaukee, Wis.; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; a brother, Kenneth Bonde; and a sister, Betty Hines.

June was an animal lover and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Noah's Hope, 2601 Myrtle Street, Sioux City, IA, 51103.
