Larry Tobin, 67, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, in Sturgis S.D.

Per his wishes, the body was cremated and transported by his sons back home to Sioux City. A memorial service, with celebration of life, love, and Larry’s friendship is being arranged at the Missouri River Boat Club on Sept. 2, 2017. His family encourages all who loved Larry to come and share a laugh, a story, or a hug in remembrance of his life.

Larry was born on June 26, 1950, in Sioux City, the son of Robert F. and Ardis A. Tobin (Nielsen). Larry married M. Kay Freeman at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 10, 1978 in Sioux City. Kay preceded Larry in death on Jan. 19, 2016.

Larry joined the U.S. Army in 1975 and met his wife, Kay, in Canon City Colo. After being released from the Army, Larry worked as a police officer for the Canon City Police Department until he and Kay moved back to Sioux City, where they called home. Larry worked his way through the ranks to become a zoning officer for the city and joined the Air National Guard as an assistant fire chief of the 185th Fighter Wing out of the Sioux City Municipal Airport. Larry worked as a zoning officer for the city for 15 years and retired from both the City of Sioux City and the Air National Guard.

Larry is survived by his three sons, Robert and his wife, Lisa of Pueblo West Colo., Thomas and his wife, Shauna of Gayville S.D., and Eugene and his wife, Karen of Sioux City; one stepson, Ivan and his wife, Tonya of Sioux City; brothers, Andrew and Chong Suk of Colorado Springs Colo., and Doug and Penny of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kay; his parents; and his sister, Bobby.
