William J. Wengert 1928 - 2000

William J. Wengert, 71, of Sioux City died Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Daniel M. Greving of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Wengert was born November 18, 1928 in Sioux City, the son of Donald W. and Margaret E. (Pendergast) Wengert. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1947. He served with the U.S. Army Military Police in Europe during the Korean War, from 1949 to 1951.

He married Sheila M. Rochford in August 27, 1955 in New Hampton, Iowa. He was employed with the Sioux City Stockyards and Commission companies for over 40 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and AFL-CIO. He was active in Morningside Little League.

Survivors include his wife, six sons and their wives, Dr. Timothy J. and Jane of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Mark W. and Kajsa of Ames, Iowa, John F. and Susan of Johnston, Iowa, Thomas M. and Paula of Ames, William P. and Shannon of Lawrence, Kansas and Donald P. and Kathryn of West Des Moines; four daughters, Mary Beth and Commander Rick Madison of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Margaret Wengert and Ellen and her husband, Dr. Alex Kazos, all of Sioux City and Diane Wengert of Phoenix; 21 grandchildren, Sarah, Ann, Laura, Nicole, Megan, Molly, Joseph, Allee, Annee, Jordan, Tyler, Brianna, Nolan, Alex, Rena, Alicia, Ryan, Sheila, Katherine, Madison and Ella and a brother and his wife, James J. and Joanne of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death b y his parents.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Tim, Mark, John, Tom, Billy and Donny Wengert.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish.
