SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Irene Verda Johnson, 85, formerly of South Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at the Bickford Cottages in Sioux City.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Stephen Niles officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Burr Oak, Kan., the daughter of Harry A. and Allie M. (Hower) Woerner. She graduated from South Sioux City High School and lived in South Sioux City all of her adult life. Her husband, Lyle N. Johnson, preceded her in death on June 12, 1992.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Laura Chapter, and many local bridge groups. She was employed by the ASC Office and IBP of Dakota City.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Janet and Robert Heliker and Nancy and Richard Persinger; a son and his wife, Mark K. and Catherine Johnson; nine grandchildren, Leslie J. Deo, Rodney F. Heliker, Ilene K. Hawkins, Cara J. Thompson, Jennifer L. Olsinski, Erin K. Masters, Amy A. Mason, Sarah L. and David A. Johnson; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Krumwiede; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Russell.

Pallbearers will be Mark and David Johnson, Bob and Rodney Heliker and Richard Persinger.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or Bickford Memory Impaired Center.
