Margaret Hodgins, 68, of Dakota City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at home surrounded by family.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb. Visitation with the family will begin at 5 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Margaret was born on Oct. 15, 1948, to Daniel and Irene (Smith) Hodgins. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1967, and was later employed by IBP for more than 30 years. After she left IBP, she worked various jobs and making new life-long friends wherever she went.

She had a captivating personality and was instantly loved by everyone she met. She spent the last 18 years caring for her youngest grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than her grandkids. Margaret enjoyed baking. She was famous for her cakes, pies, and bars for every family gathering or when she knew company was coming over. Margaret enjoyed nothing more than being with family and friends, baking cakes, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Daniel (Tiffany) Hodgins of Omaha; daughters, Wendy (Trent) Woodruff of Lincoln, Neb., Paula (Dustin) Wendte of Dakota City, and Crystal Schmeckpeper of Pierson, Iowa; grandchildren, Tim and Melissa Woodruff, Tyler Hodgins, Lauryn, Jordyn, Addisyn, and Grady Wendte; brothers, Pat Hodgins, Paul (Margo) Hodgins, Bill (Joan) Hodgins, Doug Hodgins (Randi Adams), Emmett (Robyn) Hodgins, Steve (Mary) Hodgins, and Ron Hodgins; sisters, Donna Young, and Rose McNaughton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Irene Hodgins; a sister, Betty Newburn; a brother, James Hodgins; brothers-in-law, Chuck Newburn, James Young, and Jerry McNaughton; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hodgins.

A special thank you to the eighth floor SE Mercy staff, the June E. Nylan Cancer staff, Hospice of Siouxland, and especially her nurse, Jody.
