SIOUX CITY | Ronald D. "Ron" Wheelock, 75, of Sioux City, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Ronald Douglas "Ron" Wheelock, the son of Orlando and Loretta (Limoges) Wheelock, was born May 5, 1941, in Sioux City. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1960, moving to Sioux City later that year. Ron went to work for Swift and Company as a trimmer in the hog division, where he remained for 15 years.

On Nov. 25, 1960, Ron was united in marriage with Shareil Burrell at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point, S.D. In 1975, he began working at MidAmerican Energy, eventually working many jobs in the gas department. Ron retired in 2005.

He was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and the Elk Point Country Club. Ron was an accomplished and talented woodworker, working on a wide variety of projects. Ron handcrafted all of the crosses in the rooms at St. Luke's Hospital. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards, but his greatest love was his family.

Ron is survived by his wife, Shareil of Sioux City; four children, Scott Wheelock of Burlington, Iowa, Tracy (Kenneth) Sparks of Poteet, Texas, Todd (Terri) Wheelock of Sioux City, and Brett (Amy) Wheelock of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and five sisters.
