James A. Malone, 79, of Sioux City died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

James Arthur Malone was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Mitchell, S.D., the son of James Arthur and Amelia C. (Kreitzinger) Malone. He attended and graduated from Trinity High School in Sioux City.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. During his service career, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with four Oak Clusters.

On Sept. 29, 1949, he married Caroline Barbara Thomas in Sioux City. She died Sept. 24, 1995. Mr. Malone was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1945 to 1966, when he retired due to health reasons. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
