SIOUX CITY | Elsie G. Hendrickson, 97, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at a local hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Elsie was born on Oct. 12, 1919, in Djura, Sweden, to Nels and Ellen Pierson. She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Central High with the Class of 1938.

Elsie married Norman J. Hendrickson on Oct. 14, 1939, in Sioux City. She was a proud homemaker, and worked outside the home after her family was raised. Elsie worked at the Scandinavian Bakery in the late 1950s and Williges in the late 1960s through the 1970s. She was a proud member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Carney of Waverly, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason (Corina) Carney of Germany, Sara (Tony) Rakaric of West LaFayette, Ind., JoLynn (Shane) Keplinger of Omaha, and Jeremy Hendrickson of Rogers, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Presleigh Keplinger, Caden Keplinger, Sophie Keplinger and Julia Carney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman on Sept. 26, 1992; son, Jim; and brother, George Pierson.

Pallbearers will be Jason Carney, Jeremy Hendrickson, Bob Pierson, Tony Rakaric, Shane Keplinger and Steve Hemmelman.

Memorials may be offered in Elsie's name to the church.
