DAKOTA CITY | Kevin R. "Nard" Harder, 57, of Dakota City, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at a Rochester, Minn. hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, Neb. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Nard's family would prefer casual dress for the service.

Kevin "Nard" was born on Sept. 26, 1959, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Betty (Sherman) Harder Jr. He was raised in Ponca, graduating from Ponca High School in 1977. During his high school years, he worked at Ponca State Park and was a lifeguard.

Nard married Teri Hamar on May 5, 1979 at Salem Lutheran Church (and they remain deeply in love to this day). They made their home near Dakota City. For the last 40 years, Nard worked for Cooper's Feed Mill, which later became Master Mix, and finally ADM Nutrition.

He was a member and past council member at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, Highland Oaks Golf Course and its board and Salem Lutheran Cemetery Board. Nard's grandchildren were his hobby. He also enjoyed golfing, motorcycling, fishing and was a big Nebraska fan. Nard also spent time coaching sports when his children were younger.

Survivors include his wife, Teri Harder of Dakota City; two children, Nikki (Josh) Fordyce of Sioux City, and Daniel (Kasey) Harder of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Jayli, Joey, Jace, Jahnna, Kai, and Lily; his mother, Betty Stark of Ponca; eight siblings, Vivian (Alan) Kunkel of Correctionville, Iowa, Tom (Carlene) Stark of Ponca, Virginia (Terry) Poulsen of Hornick, Iowa, Kathy Thompson of North Sioux City, Joni (Don) Merical of Jackson, Neb., Cheryl (Darrell) Roland of Ponca, Tony (Anne) Stark of Ponca, and Tammy (Kenton) Book of Ponca; brother-in-law, Mark Hughes of Ponca; his father and mother-in-law, Clair (Vera) Hamar of Jackson; his brothers-in-law, Justin (Jamie) Hamar of Waterbury, Neb., and Jay (Laurie) Hamar of Mitchell, S.D.; and nieces, nephews, and many very close and special friends.

He is preceded in death by his fathers, Raymond Harder Jr. and Ralph Stark; and a sister, Deanna Hughes.
