Harold Carl Grohs, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Sunrise Retirement Home following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Grohs was born Dec. 24, 1921, near Sioux City, the only child of Carl and Anna (Kamm) Grohs.

He married Lila K. Nicolaus on Nov. 24, 1946, in Napier, Neb. They farmed their entire lives near Sioux City. Lila passed away May 4, 1997.

As a child of God, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member as he served his Lord and church in many capacities. He was a husband of more than 50 years, a father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Gary and Ruth Grohs of Sioux City, Donald and Cynthia Grohs of Lincoln, Neb., the Rev. John and Barbara Grohs of Shakopee, Minn., and Larry and Sarah Grohs of Sioux City; and 11 grandchildren, Jeff, Mark, Kristi, Steven, Ann Marie, Kristin, Todd, Kevin, Paula, Paul and Chad and his wife, Jessica.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.
