DAKOTA DUNES | Rejoice, Shirley Calhoun of Dakota Dunes, is with her Lord. She passed into his arms on Feb. 15, 2017, after a brief, but dignified, battle with cancer. Her health wavered through the years but never her faith. The joy and peace she now feels helps to ease our grief and loss.

There will be a private gathering of her family to celebrate her life. She will be interred at a later date with her beloved husband, Chuck, after his passing. You can celebrate her life with prayers and a great memory of how she touched your life the way she did ours. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City, IA 51104, where cards can be sent. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Shirley Calhoun was born on Jan. 19, 1932, in Sioux City. It was always her home despite living and enjoying life in several wonderful locations. She was a graduate of Central High School.

It was in Sioux City, she met and married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" and that endured more than 66 years and was blessed with four children. In a world offering so many options for careers and happiness, Shirley found hers as wife, mother and homemaker and she excelled at it.

She was a member of PEO, a consummate volunteer for numerous organizations and a devoted follower of Christ. She loved her family, friends and the many people she met around the country. She enjoyed decorating her homes, caring for her loved husband, family and dogs and simply spending time talking with people. All who knew her experienced her beauty, inside and out and how she loved the lord.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Steve of Winston Salem, N.C., Mark and his wife, Melanie, of Southaven, Miss., and Craig of Dakota Dunes; a daughter, Susan Daniels of Bayard, Neb.; two half brothers, Paul Sanderson of Bend, Ore., and David Sanderson of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her biological father, Harry M. Sanderson; her mother and father by adoption, Olive and Earl Glann; a daughter-in-law, Karen Calhoun; and a son-in-law, Bradley Daniels.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Siouxland Humane Society or Hospice of Siouxland in her name.
