SIOUX CITY | Doris E. Georg, 94, of Sioux City, formerly of South Sioux City, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Douglas Dill Officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker–Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Doris Elaine Georg was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Jolley, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold G. and Katherine A. (Nutter) Koeppen. She graduated from Jolley High School.

On Sept. 12, 1940, she married Carl H . Georg in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple farmed in Jolley, Rockwell City and Holstein, Iowa. In 1971, the couple moved to Jefferson, S.D., where they were involved with horse racing.

She was the horsemen's bookkeeper at Park Jefferson in South Dakota and Atokad Park in South Sioux City for 25 years. The couple moved to South Sioux City in 1982.

Doris was a member of First Lutheran Church. She helped with the tying of quilts for missions.

Survivors include two sons, Jay of Rockwell, Texas, and John (Terri) of Holstein; three daughters, Sue (David) Walsh of Clare, Iowa, Diane (Todd) Sands of Sioux City and Carmen (Jerry) Bish of Bloomfield, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Neil (Loretta) Koeppen of Rockwell City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl on June 18, 2005; and four sisters, Phyllis Nelson, Blaine Cronk, Madge Hathaway and Kathryn Rastetter.

Pallbearers will be John Walsh, Jon Georg, Justin Georg, Todd Sands, Mark Traster and Brett Downs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kathryn Traster, Mary Anne Smith, Jennifer Downs and Alicia Sands.
