Raymond Robert Erickson, 54, of Livermore, California, formerly of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 8, 1998, at home from a heart attack.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Callaghan Mortuary Chapel in Livermore. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Erickson was born in 1943 in Sioux City, the son of Gordon Leonard and Grace Louise Erickson. He had lived in Livermore since moving there from Virginia in 1978. He married Marilyn Thayer in 1966. The couple divorced in 1994. He was a 1966 graduate of the Georgia Intitute of Technology in Atlanta. His work as an industrial engineer took him to Cincinnati, Joplin, Mo., Nebraska City, Nebraska and Portsmouth, Va. He later worked as an engineer and program manager for several major firms including Clorox, Lockheed and IBM. At the time of his death he was a contracting officer for Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

He was a very active and renowned stamp collector. He had won many awards from local and national organizations for his presentations, including several prestigious Vermeil awards for his displays of Icelandic Postal Cards. He was the current president of the San Francisco Stamp Collectors Club and a founder of the nationwide Postal Label Study Group. He was also a member of the steering committee for the Association for Western Philatelic Exhibitions Inc. and the international Pacific 97 Stamp Show held last year in San Francisco.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher Alan of Santa Cruz, California and David William of Livermore; his father of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Joanne Louise Knapp of Milford, Ohio and a brother Gordon Leonard Erickson of Alexandria, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials may be directed to Shepherd’s Gate Shelter of Livermore.
