Clarence E. Sales, 78, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Smith, of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 today with the family present from 6:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Sales was born December 13, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of Joseph Elliot and Dora Ann (Ferdig) Sales. He attended Sioux City schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Ila Mae on September 13, 1941, in Nebraska. He was employed with Brennan and Cohen Dry Cleaners for several years and then with the American Cleaners until his retirement.

He was a member of Landmark Masonic Lodge 103, the Sioux City Consistory, the Scottish Rites of Free Mason, 32nd Degree Mason, the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, the American Legion Auxiliary to Monahan Post 64 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Larry and Holly of Sioux City; two daughters, Marleen Jones of Little Elm, Texas and Linda Krause and Jim Mehess of Sioux City; two sisters, Grace Stark of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and Loretta Johnson of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joe and Carl and three sisters, Flossie Reise, Lucy Norton and Velma Sutherland.
