SIOUX CITY | Cheryl Vakulskas, 67, of Sioux City, passed away after a second battle with cancer, Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Cheryl, the daughter of Neil and Anita (Anderson) Casey, was born on Nov. 29, 1949, in Sioux City. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. Cheryl then attended Western Iowa Tech Community College for nurse's training.

On Aug. 23, 1969, Cheryl was united in marriage with Charles Vakulskas at St. Casmir's Church. Three children were born to this union. Cheryl and Charles made their home in Sioux City. Cheryl was a licensed practical nurse and first worked in the newborn intensive care unit at St. Luke's. She then worked as a family practice nurse for South Sioux City St. Luke's (Dr. Knerl) and Sergeant Bluff Unity Point (Sue Handke). She also was a part-time urgent care nurse.

Cheryl loved God, her grandkids, special times with family, vacations to Mexico and Hawaii, gardening, long walks, cooking, reading and biking.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Charles Vakulskas of Sioux City; three children, Wendy Gehling and husband, Randy, and their children, Maggie, Casey, and Lucy, of Eagan, Minn., Amy Gerharter and husband, Justin, and their daughters, Izzy and Harper of La Vista, Neb., and Scott Vakulskas from Omaha; and her siblings, Jeff Casey of Collinsville, Ill., Connie Rygh and husband, Scott of Rocklin, Calif., and Tammy Fischer and husband, Kevin of Worthing, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Anita Casey.

Memorial donations will be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
