SERGEANT BLUFF | Elena A. Johnson, 77, of Sergeant Bluff, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at her residence.

Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, on what would have been her 50th wedding anniversary, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elena was born on Sept. 23, 1939, in Zamboanga City, Philippines. On Feb. 1, 1967, Elena was united in marriage to Earle C. Johnson in the Philippines. Shortly after, they moved to California, then after Earle's discharge, moved to Moville, Iowa, and then settled in Sioux City. They had just recently moved to Sergeant Bluff.

Elena studied hard and earned her American citizenship in 1974. She was very proud to become an American citizen. Elena worked at several Sioux City businesses, including the Sirloin Stockade, then Winna-Vegas Casino. until retiring in 2009.

Elena is survived by her husband, Earle; one son, Cyrus Johnson of Sioux City; one daughter, Carla, and her husband, Kenny Clark, of Emerson, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters.
