SIOUX CITY | Ruth Stewart Pfeil, 96, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at a care center in Remsen, Iowa.

Per her wishes, the body has been cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Ruth was born on April 6, 1920, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Archie and Mary (Bell) MacKay. She married George J. Pfeil on Dec. 29, 1949 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1995. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital as a greeter and in mail delivery.
She was a very creative person, enjoying refurbishing and woodworking crafts.

Survivors include her son, John and wife, Connie Pfeil of Sioux City; granddaughters, Laurie and husband, Dave Sticha of Montgomery, Minn., and Shannon and husband, Louis Cerda of Fountain Valley, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Courtney, Allison, Jacob, Joshua, and MacKinsey; niece, Peggy LaCroix; grandniece, Renee Begnoche; and special hairdresser and friend, Garry Boggs of Mainstreet Hair Salon in Kingsley, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Kathleen Pfeil.
