Janice Arlene Benzel, 62, of Sioux City died Monday, March 30 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Berkemier Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. The body will be cremated following the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m., today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Benzel was born December 5, 1935, in North Sioux City, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Shaw) Keifer. She was raised and attended school in North Sioux City.

She married Alfred Dietschy in 1951, in North Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City. They moved to Belle Gardens, California, in 1961. He died July 4, 1969. She returned to Sioux City in 1969.

She married George Benzel in 1971 in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in Sioux City. They were divorced in 1975.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah and her husband, Dennis Kimsey of Hinton, Iowa and Shirley and her husband, Jerry Murdock and Ila Larson, all of Sioux City; two sons, Walter Dietschy and his wife, Gabielle and George Benzel Jr. all of Sioux City; two sisters, Lula and her husband, Bob Watkins of Beresford, South Dakota and Betty Ferdick of Jamestown, Florida; nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Michael Keifer, and two sisters, Irene Hewitt and Violet Manchester.
